Greetings to All and Welcome to 2021!

For those of you who are already affiliated to PDCC, we look forward to meeting with you in continuing solidarity, fellowship and support as we embark on our “new normal” following a year of turbulence and change as we fought the monster called COVID. It was great to have each other to commune with and compare notes as to how everyone handled the struggle to make sense of government orders, guidelines and shutdowns.

For those of you who are not yet affiliated, this letter is to warmly invite you to join us for an information meeting to once again introduce ourselves and to share some of the reasons we have joined together in order to make the individual locals stronger as they go about their daily business of advancing workers rights while upholding and maintaining past gains. As they say, together we are stronger – no doubt about that concept.

This particular Council has been working to re-establish itself since Oct 2019. We belong to the larger, all Ontario group of CUPE Councils who meet regularly to discuss things on a provincial scale and plan where to spend our energy and money on the most topical and useful campaigns of the day. For example, a recent campaign involved making CUPE’s workers safe and paid during inevitable lockdowns and the necessity to stay at home with either school children, vulnerable and ill family members or to socially distance. Our aim in this case was and is to raise public awareness of the sacrifices of public sector frontline workers to keep the rest of the community moving and thriving.
